The word Tukwila comes from the Duwamish people’s language meaning “land where the hazelnuts grow.” And, according to historical accounts, hazelnut trees grew in abundance throughout Tukwila one hundred years ago.

A century later, the groves of hazelnuts have grown to become one of Western Washington’s most active centers of industry, commerce, transportation, and recreation.
